【Background】
The applications for separation filters have become important to reduce environmental pollution in various fields. One of the most important properties of porous ceramics for filters is permeability because this property directly correlates with the pressure drop during filtration. Higher permeability can be achieved by controlling the microstructure with unidirectionally aligned pores.
【Objective and Strategy】
In this study, porous alumina ceramics with unidirectionally aligned pores were prepared using an extrusion method.(Fig. 1)
【Results】
The mechanical properties of the obtained porous ceramics were twice as high as those of the conventional porous ceramics with spherical pores. The gas permeability of the extruded samples is 2000 times higher than that of the conventional porous ceramics. The permeability values increased with increasing of porosity and pore size in the porous ceramics.
